Through constructing a home as part of their curriculum, some Sun Prairie High School students are learning superb building practices and energy efficient technologies.
This marks Sun Prairie's first year building a Wisconsin
ENERGY STAR Home, in conjunction with the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program.
"Through the construction of a single-family home, students are exposed to and participate in nearly all elements of residential construction," explained Thomas Sanders, the instructor leading the project.
"Participation in the ENERGY STAR Program further exposes students to the principles and techniques utilized to exceed minimum State Energy Code Standards," he added.
The Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes Program uses the Environmental Protection Agency's strict guidelines for energy efficiency as a basis of the certification process for each home.
