KSUN-980? After 30 years, it will be quite a change

Soon, you'll have to search a little higher on the dial for Sun Prairie high school football games, School Board meetings and local church services.

Cable access stations KSUN-12 and KIDS-4, which have been broadcasting such activities for 30 years, are moving to the digital tier on Aug. 12. The station numbers will be placed somewhere between 980 and 998.

The change is the result The Cable Competition Bill.

Residents without digital cable -- including subscribers to basic and extended basic cable -- will not be able to watch these stations unless they buy a specialized television with a QAM tuner, purchase a cable card or rent a digital set-top unit from Charter for approximately $5.

"Sun Prairie Cable Access Television has spent years developing our identity around our specific channel numbers, KSUN-12 and KIDS-4," reads a statement on the channels' Web site. "With this move to the 900s, we need to make the community aware of our new location so our programming can continue to be enjoyed!"
