Ahh, the county fair. When the country comes to the city.
Where else can you enjoy a cream puff and a carnival ride or take in a llama show and fried pickles on a stick? Each day of the Dane County Fair -- July 16-20 -- promises fun for the whole family.
In addition to eight barns full of animals, thousands of youth exhibits, fabulous food, a novel marketplace, carnival rides and free musical entertainment, the fair offers the following brand new attractions:
The Winn Family Thrill Show
See the Winns perform spine-tingling, death-defying acts daily at 3:45 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
ShenaniGuns Comedy Wild West Show
The Wild West goes whack-o when Sheriff Hoppalong Casually and Deputy Leon Jones strap on big iron and face off several times daily against dimwit desperadoes Bad Bob and bumbling baby brother Bubba Bob.
Sea Lion Splash
These water loving friends -- a favorite at past fairs -- are back daily. The show features the natural comedic behavior of these loveable creatures. Balancing, catching, handstands, dancing, singing and interaction with the crowd are all part of this spell-binding show.
Parent/Child Play Day
On Thursday, families are also invited to participate in Parent/Child Play Day from 2-4 p.m. in Hall D of Exhibition Hall. Sponsored by Dane County 4-H, this program offers ideas and activities to help families learn and play together.
Sussy's Bounce House
Located next to the Kiddie Barn Petting Zoo in Exhibition Hall A, Sussy's party people offer goofy games, kid sports, relay races and inflatable fun every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Hybridfest 2008
Take part in the nation's largest event dedicated to hybrid electric cars. On Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can see all of the hybrid vehicles currently on the market, take them for a test drive and visit with hybrid owners and dealers.
