Weather radios quite popular

Fifty-three percent of respondents to last week's Sun Prairie Today poll indicated they have -- or plan to buy -- a weather radio.

Fortunately, the reduced-price weather alert radios being offered by the county are back in stock locally. Supplies had been depleted by greater-than-expected demand.

The radios sell on a "first come, first served" basis and cannot be reserved, state's the City's Web site.

The cost is $22 plus tax (retail is $60). There is a limit of two radios per person.

They can be purchased at City Hall or the West Side Community Services Building during standard office hours.

Similar to a smoke detector, the all-hazard radio silently monitors the National Weather Service and provides an alert when life-threatening hazards strike (which you could miss if you are sleeping or not tuned to the right TV or radio channel at the right time).

"I already have it and it's great," said one respondent to the Sun Prairie Today survey.
