Businesses warned of local scam

A con artist has been bilking downtown business the past couple weeks, according to an alert issued by the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce.

The individual (pictured in a surveillance photo) approaches business owners and asks for $40 to $60 in cash, "claiming he is locked out and doesn't want to break a window," the notice states. The man says he will pay the business owner back, but does not return.

The individual has referenced local business owner names when asking for money.

"Please refuse this individual and let him know that a scam alert has been posted in the community -- it may help stop the activity," the announcement stated.
